Baron NPC: Kurt & Edward Jameson

Kurt Lyndon & Edward Jameson

A Tale Of Two Barons

Love. Betrayal. Revenge.

I’m here to tell you about a story about two baron RNPCs (Recruitable Non Player Characters). These two baron RNPCs  were forced by circumstances to live underground in the Criminals Town - Los Toldos.

Los Toldos is a place so secret that only the most hardened criminals will be able to find it. Only after you have PK-ed (Player Killed) enough victims, will you will be deemed ‘worthy’ enough to enter this criminals lair.
After you’ve visited Los Toldos a few times, you will start to notice some of the other ‘regulars’ here. Like someone known amongst the criminals as ‘The Nameless Person’.
The Nameless Person

“I have nothing to say to you. Go away,” he says to you like a broken record.

Until one day, you turn up at Los Toldos with the Wheel of Destiny upon your back

Wheel of Destiny - The ice-breaker of any conversation

This is when the Nameless Person starts to take an interest in you and you find out his name is Kurt Lyndon.
Kurt Lyndon, otherwise known as the Black Baron, is the adopted son of Sir Lyndon and the Captain of Sir Lyndon’s army. His tactical genius was unmatched in the battlefield and Sir Lyndon was threatened by his growing influences. Eventually, his father plotted to have him assassinated. However, his plan did not succeed and Kurt escaped, fleeing to Los Toldos. He is known to be currently leading the Barons in Los Toldos.
Father and Son in happier days…

After gaining Kurt Lyndon’s trust, he will introduce you to his right hand man, Edward Jameson, the White Baron in Los Toldos. Edward Jameson is an immigrant from Brestia and used to be the 2nd Lieutenant from the Brestia Special Army. He was rumored to be slain during the war by Montoro, (the equivalent of Darth Vedar) but was actually rescued by Kurt.

Although he was saved, a huge portion of his memory was lost due to the brutal experiments conducted on him by Montoro. All he remembers is that he has a younger brother and a fiancée. He hopes to find the Regency in order to regain his memory.

Whose Side Will You Choose?

Eventually as you become closer friends with Edward, he confides to you that he is a spy sent by Sir Lyndon to assassinate Kurt Lyndon and proposes that you help him.

E-drama continues as the two men have a final confrontation and you have to choose who you will help - The White Baron (Edward Jameson) or The Black Baron (Kurt Lyndon). Only one of them will live by the end of this battle. Your final choice will determine who will be part of your family, afterwhich you will not be able to recruit the other Baron.
On a more pragmatic note, both these barons have exactly the same skills and stats. The only differences are their looks and their pet summon - Grim Reaper. Being the white baron, Edward Jameson summons a White Grim Reaper while Kurt Lyndon summons the Black Grim Reaper.
So… are they good?

Gamers constantly ask me how they should build their team of 3 or whether or not some RNPCs are good. And while the clichéd answer of ‘It depends on what you want to use them for’ may be true, it often leaves them feeling even more lost than ever.

A simple ‘template’ to follow when you want to determine if a certain class or RNPC is to take a step back from virtual world and into the real one and question yourself on why you are so in love with that girl of your dreams. So ask yourself typical questions like:

1) What Makes Her Special?

In this context, the Barons’ unique abilities are:

A) Soul of Grim

This is one of the best buffs. At the cost of just 10 DEF, Edward and Kurt is able to increase their ATK, ATK Speed and Critical Rate up to a maximum of 10%. This is a good trade off since their skills already do a considerably higher damage than other fighter class. This allows them to excel in 1v1 PvP battles. Moreover, when equipped with a Soul of Grim Reaper ring, the skill will give an additional +1 ATK Rating which further improves their combat capabilities.
B) Summon White/Black Grim-Reaper

What’s not to love about having a Grim Reaper as a pet? However, just like your typical pet from a Summoning class, the Grim Reaper deals little damage. On the bright side, this Grim Reaper can do AOE (Area Of Effect) splash damage and has a lot of health points which makes it a good tank at lower levels.

C) Unlocks the Ability to Buy Elite Level 92 Recipes

After completing the Barons’ quest, you would have become chums with the old man in Los Toldos who sells Elite Level 92 Weapon Recipes, which is a total win-win situation.

2) How Does She Compare To Others?

A) League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

First of all, we need to compare this character to other characters in the same league. The Barons are rapier (fencing) and pistol users, which put them in the same league as fellow RNPC, Andre Janzur and stock class, Fighter.

Baron RNPC VS Fighter: The advantages that the Baron RNPC has over the fighter class is his ability to use a powerful skill, Advance Garde at level 60 while the Fighter would only be able to get it beyond Level 100. The Baron RNPC has most of the same skills that a fighter has except that the damage he deals is more.

Skill Name
Fighter Damage
Baron Damage
Arme Bullet
362%
378%
Croix Fente
517%
543%
Entrer en Lics
1032%
1084%
Mortal Eternity
1683%
1792%
Damage Table For Advance Garde Stance

The downside is that the Baron RNPCs are unable to change their cosmetic looks (costume/ hairstyle) while fighters are able to do so. Additionally, fighters have more stances available to them which make them more versatile.

3) How Does She React Under Different Circumstances?

A) PvP (Player VS Player) Performance

Edward and Kurt excel against coat and robe users due to having a high damage modifier. Furthermore, their ‘Sept Etoiles’ skill has the ability to deal double damage to enemies using soft armor.

B) PvE (Player VS Environment) Performance

Barons’ high strength gives additional damage to all skills while their pet summon, Grim Reaper acts as a tank with its high health points and AOE attacks that deal damage to multiple enemies.

C) GvG (Guild VS Guild) Performance

Barons do not excel in this area since their Grim Reaper lasts for only 3 minute and has low damage compared to other classes. They are built mainly for 1v1 fights and are unlikely to be the last man standing in GvG fights.
